Arup recognised for Engineering Excellence

Since MPavilion 2015 the team from Arup—designers, builders, engineers, consultants and technical specialists—have been a vital part of the engineering details of MPavilion. We are proud to announce, in addition to their already substantial awards cabinet, that two of their recent projects have been recognised at the Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards 2016 held at Engineers Australia headquarters.

MPavilion 2015 received a High Commendation in the Buildings and Structures Category; and the Bourke Road Level Crossing Removal received a High Commendation in the Project Infrastructure Category.

AL_A, Arup, ShapeShift and Kane Constructions collaborated with the Naomi Milgrom Foundation to deliver the MPavilion 2015 in our place in the Queen Victoria Gardens. AL_A’s design, a forest canopy of translucent petals supported by slender poles, presented a unique engineering challenge for the design team.

MPavilion 2015 has now been re-located to a permanent home in the Docklands, for you to view and visit any time.

The Bourke Road Level Crossing Removal was part of a $524m package to remove four level crossings, with more than 25,000 vehicles, 150 trains and 180 trams travelling through this busy intersection every day. The project team removed the crossing and built a new modern station for the community in just seven months.

Our congratulations go to the team at Arup! And, remember, AL_A’s MPavilion 2015 can be visited any time, day or night, in Docklands Park.
