Art, Social and Spatial Practice (ASSP) is a research cluster of the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts. As a group, it investigates the potential of both the material and social production of art as object, performance, spatial practice or relational experience—notions it explores in its regular series of salon-style events, Food for Thought. ASSP’s ethos is conversational and performative, focused on charging up a cultural space to intersect public conversation, artistic practice and research. The group addresses the spatial and social importance of context that is central to both contemporary arts practice and art in public and institutional spaces.
